New residential building No 50 placed in the area Sveti Vid in Rovinj, Istria, responds to several important contextual issues. Mediterranean context and lifestyle, the specific climate, contact with open spaces and protection from the sun, are the issues and topics that significantly influenced the design and functioning of the building. Local context of Rovinj's streets, so called kala, is a basic formative and functional element.

Residential units are grouped in three volumes interconnected with vertical open corridors, kind of narrow streets (kala) that formally divide and link the object in one housing unit. Due to the mild Mediterranean climate and possibility to stay outdoors for more than 6 months of the year, this extended platforms in front of the apartment entrances become covered spaces used as common areas, a place of socializing with neighbours, and the green garden of all tenants.

Outdoor spaces of each residential units change their character through the floors, in ground floor apartments they are the terraces on the ground in the green, on the first floor they are drawn in as a deep balcony - loggia, while on the last floor they are completely drawn into the apartment and form the inner atrium and the entrance area of the flat.
Apartments are typologically divided into two types; side and bilateral apartments. 6 side apartments (3 on each side) have a three-sided orientation, a space advantage which gives the apartment a house-like quality. All apartments are bright and sunny, with spacious living rooms, large bedrooms, and other service areas. The apartments are sized from 90 to 100sqm with garage parking space in the basement part of the house, with a direct dry connection to the apartment.

Besides in their emphasized size, the particularity of the house lies in the design of all the windows and openings. All openings are large and they unite windows that can be opened with the fixed glass parts. This element is a result of the idea of having one big opening in each room that could provide more light in the apartment and would create the specific form of the building. Discreet main volumes of the whole house are clad in high quality mortar in the manner of the best Istria houses.
